Unit 5 Final Draft

This is the web activity which chooses a hierarchy system to show data of a specific topic. The topic I chose was to show the organization system of the United States Army. The image would be appropriate for High School students studying military history.



My partners comments helped my adjust and completely change my image. I used an image of a army toy soldier to show the size of each organization group of the army. I also removed the colors which were inappropriate.

Lastly, I used the information from the text to create my image. First, I had the image of the army toys direct the readers eyes towards the words (149). The army troops are pointing to the words with their guns, which draws the reader in. Also, I added the visual details of the army toys to draw the reader in (149).

Unit 5 rought Draft

I chose to do the web activity. The hierarchy chart I chose to display was the organization system of the United States Army. The organization shows the different sizes of the US army. The learner would be a high school student studying military history. Do you think the chart is clear to read and understand?

Unit 4 Final Draft

I chose to do the independent activity from page 278. I found the image from a science book website. The image is intended for 8th grade students studying the layers of the earth. I added a separate key image to separate the information for better spacing. I also adjusted the colors to show the layers in their own light. Lastly, I labeled the layers inside the drawing. The key has the same colors of each layer from the image to show the layer’s temperature and depth.



My partner recommended that I use a separate image for a key to divide the information properly for a less crowded flow. Also, the colors were too bold, so it was recommended to use analogous colors. Lastly, my partner felt that a simple line was necessary to show where the crust is. The comments helped me improve my image.
The justification for my image centers around the colors and spacing taught in the unit and book. First, I used the analogous colors to show changing levels of something (270). The colors I used were yellow orange, orange, and orange-red. Also, I centered the images to eliminate trapped space (273). I did not want the figures to compete, so I had the main image up and center and the lower image down and away. It was important for the message of the revised image to be seen (102).

I chose to do the independent activity from page 278. I found an image that was from a science website and science book. The image is for 8th grade students and it shows the layers of the earth and the temperatures and depths. My redesign focused on creating a better flow and positioning of the images. I chose different colors to show the different layers.

Unit 3 Web Activity Final Draft

This is a web activity which used typography to express the words collaboration, alienation, synergy, and bossiness. There are four pictures created out of only letters to express the words. The word collaboration was a combination of the letter “H” to create a ladder. The idea was for the letters to work together, or collaborate, to create an image of a ladder. The picture of synergy was created with the letter “V”. The letter was moved in different positions to create a diamond like image which is shows synergy. The third image is the alphabet in a bold, fancy font alienating the lowercase “Y”. Lastly, the big block “B” shows bossiness over the smaller, lowercase “B’s”.



The comments I received indicated that I needed to adjust the four images to fit the criteria of CARP. For the collaboration image, I used alignment to make the ladder of “H’s” look cleaner and organized. The synergy image needed an even flow to make the image have proper proximity. The alienation image had the group of letters capitalized and a more stylistic font to show they were alienating the lowercase “Y”. For the bossiness image, the “B” was changed to a bold, intimidating block “B”. The lowercase “B’s” were aligned and placed in proximity under the bold “B” to show they were intimidated. Finally, all four images were separated and aligned to four even corners.
I feel the images for the web activity were created properly under the rules of CARP and type. Many of the images display the contrast, alignment, repetition, and proximity recommendations of CARP. The type of the third image, alienation, displays how the lowercase and upper case letters are contrasted to highlight part of the image (215). The font of the business image complements the meaning of the word (214). In addition, both images show repetition, which create a sense of unity among the upper and lower case letters. The images are not over crowded and flow nicely when put together. The images are in close proximity, which provides a clean, organized appearance (84). I enjoyed creating the images out of letters. I chose to do this activity to see what could be created with the simple use of letters. The book was very helpful because it provided examples of proper uses of type. I used multiple styles of type, including font, size, and color before finishing the images. The information of the book shows how many combinations of fonts and sizes there are to change an image. I learned that a simple change of the font can change the whole message of an image.

Unit 3 Web Activity

The learner in this web activity would be an older student, late high school. This activity would introduce the words collaboration, synergy, alienation, and bossiness to the class. The first picture is the letter “H” working together as a ladder to show the word collaboration. The second picture is the letter “V” rearranged to show a dimension of synergy. The third picture is the letters of the alphabet in one group and the letter “y” in the other group to show alienation. The fourth picture is a giant letter “B” intimidating the little letters to show bossiness. Thanks for looking at my pictures and let me know what you think.

Unit 2 Visual Final Draft

My visual activity project was created to assist students, specifically students with a learning disability in math, with adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers. The number line is going vertical, because research has shown that students with disabilities interpret information that is displayed vertical. Most number lines are shown horizontal, so this is an accommodation used to assist a student who struggles with math. The changes I did from the feedback from the rough draft were abundant. The major change included color. I chose black to label positive numbers. I used blue to have the zero stand out. And lastly I used red to display negative numbers. When this topic is taught, I like to use the words to describe negative numbers, “In the red”.

My image uses the simple shape of lines to separate positive and negative numbers, as to show direction to positive and negative numbers (250). In order to help the student remember the information in their working memory, I chunked the positive numbers together with the color black and the negative numbers were chunked together with the color red (55).
